Meet Sophia

Sophia Marie Gonzalez was born on January 22, 2014. She was a beautiful, healthy, curly-haired queen - she would correct anyone who called her a princess. Sophia was a selfless little girl

with an old soul. ​She loved life and the people in her life. She was a proud older sister to 

her little brother and best friend, Aiden, and "Mama-phia" to her boys - she loved

being the only girl. Anyone that knew Sophia knew that she was a Stitch lover and a

Jonas Brothers superfan. 

 

On April 23, 2023, we received a phone call that every parent fears and heard the

phrase, “your daughter has Leukemia”. Sophia's case was rare but she fought nearly

18 months - after two relapses, Sophia's Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) became so

aggressive that it took her away on December 3, 2024 at the age of 10.

One of Sophia's favorite quotes that she would often write was "Cancer is tough, but I am

tougher." She never allowed her diagnosis to impact her optimism or break her spirit.

We created The SophiaStrong Foundation to honor Sophia's life and create less toxic, more targeted treatment options for children and families facing a cancer diagnosis. Our children deserve better and together we can make a difference. ​
